Shoulder Pain

Shoulder Pain is a common orthopedic diagnosis which needs to be diffrentiated from cervical spondylosis. Most commonly mistaken and treated for as neck pain or radiculopathy. The patients may range from young adults to elderly age group and can have an array of differentials in all age groups. Most commonly young athletes present to us with upper back and shoulder pain radiating to the upper arm typically associated with sporting acitivities involving a throw. Other common diagnosis in young patients remain is usually a post-traumatic instability/dislocation. Few common differentials have been discussed in detail.

The cause of pain may be several and require a thorrough clinical and radiological examination before concluding the diagnosis and managing the patient. Physiotherapy and rehabilitation commonly helps most patients do well but few subset may require a surgical intervention for resolution of the symptoms.
