Trigger Finger

Trigger finger or stenosing tenosynovitis is a complex fiberous tissue disease where there is a scarring of the sheath covering the tendon. This leads to a sudden stop and a forceful release of the tendon on flexion and extension. This is more commonly seen in women and diabetics. The root cause of trigger finger must be known and under control before any intervention is done. Metabolic screening is essential for the same.

When the triggering/stenosis is not severe and occours occasionally, it can be relieved using ice packs and rest. In cases where the patient is disabled in doing activities of daily iving, it it suggested that the patient undergoes a release using minimally invasive techniques. In re-calcitrant cases where this problem re-occours, it is advised that an open release it done.

The procedure has good to excellent post operative results.
